*How to promote love of reading in kids*πππ
My both kids have great fervor for reading books. I am often asked by my son’s teachers, relatives and people in my social circle ” How come your kids love books this much?”
” How did u foster this habit?”
I believe this is a great platform to share the practices that have helped me inculcate love of reading in my kids.
During both my pregnancies I spent a fair amount of time reading. It has always been in my priority list to read and learn new things. My kids have seen me reading on daily basis. Toddlers tend to emulate their parents.
When my son’s grip was strong enough to hold objects, I got him some hard card board books with colorful picturesΒ πΌππππΆ.(the same books my daughter used later)
Every day we had a read together time even if it was only 10 minutes a day.Β π©βπ¦. I read stories to him in an interesting way changing my tone of voiceΒ π£and using different gesturesπ©βπ€. ( It fosters connection as well as love of reading ). Stories need to be age appropriate with simple vocabulary to make it easier for kids to understand and relate to it.
As he grew I introduced different kinds of books to him; Junior encyclopedia, books on morality stories, stories of Prophets, just a few to name.He is 5 Masha Alllah and he has a lot to talk about when he meets people, be it Prophet stories or knowledge about the world around us, like living creatures; mammals, reptiles, creepy crawlies, birds, sea, creatures, pre historic creatures, how things work etc etc.
It gives me great pleasure when my both kids prefer buying books over toys or fast food.ππ.
He spends almost 30 minutes to 1 hour daily in reading books independently. This is the time when my both kids are fully occupied meanwhile I can read too. AHMAD loves teaching Inaya snd Inaya loves her teacherβ£π«
Here is my kids book collection . *HAPPY READING EVERYONE*
