The first 1000 days between conception and the 2nd birthday are of critical importance, for the development of a child. The nutrition of these 1000 days set the precedent for the lifetime of the child. Malnutrition in these days is devastating to babies and young children whose brains and bodies depend on good nutrition for their healthy growth and development. The damage done in this phase is almost irreversible and reaches far into the future.
Good nutritional practices during a woman’s pregnancy and her child’s 2ndbirthday can save lives and enable children to reach their full potential.
Pakistan right now, is facing a huge burden of malnutrition, as approximately 45% of our under 5 population is stunted and undernourished. This places us second in place just after the African population. It also impacts the under 5 mortality rate. These statistics play an important role in understanding the burden our country’s economy will face as these children will not reach their potential, and hence will pressurize the economy instead of giving it a push forward.
So, as a community, we must make sure that we convey the importance of
☯️Nutritional status of a pregnant women
☯️Breastfeeding
☯️Food security
☯️Healthy food choices for infants
☯️Balanced diet for the growing child
I am here in my capacity to help you out. Do reach forward to know the difference between right and wrong practices and also to learn the basics of healthy nutrition for yourself and your child.
🌈Let’s make first 1000 days’ investment in good nutrition, to reap the fruit throughout life.
